Yr 9 Iaith ar Waith (Language in the Workplace) Event Comes to Bryngwyn

Every July, the Welsh department at Ysgol Bryngwyn holds a Iaith ar Waith day for Yr 9 pupils in order to raise awareness of the use of Welsh in the workplace. We invite companies and organizations to the school to hold short sharp sessions with small groups of pupils. This year’s event was held on Monday 16th July in the school sports hall.
Each organization was asked to give a short introduction to the groups, hold a question and answer session and offer something for the pupils to read or to do. A competition was held with prizes for the best in each group.
Amongst the organisations taking part this year, there were:

  • Menter Iaith Llanelli
  • Urdd Gobaith Cymru
  • Estyn Llaw
  • Coleg Sir Gar
  • Radio Cymru
  • Communities First
  • Swansea City Council
  • Cyngor Sir Gar
  • The National Assembly of Wales
  • Cwmni Mega

The morning was opened by our local AM Keith Davies who talked about the importance of a qualification in Welsh and being bilingual. The highlight of the morning was undoubtedly the presence of Welsh actor Dafydd Hywel who has appeared in various Welsh and English TV series including The Bill, Peak Practice and Holby City. Dafydd currently plays the part of Glen in the Sky series Stella.
Many thanks to everyone for their efforts prior to and during the day.
