Bryngywn Pupils Paricipate in 2 Day Print Design Workshop Held Onsite

As an Art department, we endeavour to deliver a broad range of art practice to all ages and ability.

This term we wanted to expand pupils knowledge, understanding and skills in printmaking.

With a kind contribution from CYCA we were able to invite the Swansea Print Workshop to spend two days at Bryngwyn.  They delivered a very exciting and informative two day course. Pupils from  Years 6 -10  took part. We were delighted to include two pupils from three of our feeder schools, and were truly astonished by the pupil’s flare and skill. They are a credit to their schools- well done! We hope to include our other feeder primary schools in a similar project next year.

The project was entitled 'Our Local Environment'.  We took the pupils on a short walk to the historic Felinfoel Church where the pupils spent some time drawing from sight in custom made sketch books. They then went on to draw further sketches of natural forms on the village green opposite.

When we returned to school later that morning, the pupils were shown how to prepare a collograph printing plate. These were made using their sketches as their main resource and recreating shapes and forms that helped reflect what they had seen on their visit.  The printing plates were very much a collage, using a number of different surfaces, including relief wallpaper and cotton!

The next day pupils were ready to print.  They were shown the process of inking up their plates with a range of colours.  They were also demonstrated how to use the printing press - a task in itself and not for the weak!

The results were outstanding! All pupils that took part gained not only new understanding and skills from a professional printmaking context, but had a thoroughly enjoyable time.
