Bryngwyn Pupils 'Rock' at the Millenium Theatre in Cardiff

‘We Will Rock You’ Wows Us at the Millennium Theatre, Cardiff

More able and talented musicians, actors and students of English were invited to take a trip to the Millennium Theatre for a guided tour, followed by a performance of the award winning musical ‘We Will Rock You’. The musical is written by comedian Ben Elton around the anthems of the rock group ‘Queen’, and features two live bands; eight huge video screens and colossal special effects to give the production its rock concert atmosphere.

We all enjoyed the tour, especially backstage, where we got a sneaky peek at the cast’s warm up dance routine. Star, Rhydian Roberts, well known for his white hair and huge voice on ‘The X Factor’, was certainly swivelling those hips, to prepare for his role as the villainous Khashoggi!

’We Will Rock You’ is set in an Orwellian future controlled by the ‘Globalsoft Corporation’, where all rock musicians and real instruments are outlawed and all music is electronically homogenised. Its themes are consumerism; the role of the internet; creativity; and the freedom of the individual . The Ga Ga kids live in a consumerist world of continuous commercials. They wear the same clothes and think the same thoughts because they are influenced by what they download on the internet, which is controlled by Globalsoft. Only two teenagers, Scaramouche and Galileo, are different and try to rebel...

By the end of the performance, most of us in the audience had sung our hearts out and clapped our hands until we thought they’d drop off! Now we are back at Bryngwyn, we’re delighted the decision has been made to put on the show.

Do you know what part you’d like to  play? Are you a  Killer Queen or Khashoggi? Or are you a budding singer ... or dancer? The auditions can’t be far away!
